At 47 years old, Paul Casey might not be in his prime, but he’s proving that he still has plenty of fight left in the LIV Golf League. After an underrated 2024 season, where he finished 11th in the individual standings, the English veteran is setting a clear target for 2025—finishing ahead of Bryson DeChambeau.
Despite not securing a win, Casey came agonizingly close in Hong Kong, finishing second to Abraham Ancer. Reflecting on his year, he admitted that winning on LIV Golf is no easy feat. But for next season, his motivation is simple: beating DeChambeau in the rankings.
Casey’s Rivalry with DeChambeau: More Than Just Friendly Competition
Casey has been part of DeChambeau’s Crushers GC since joining LIV Golf, and their relationship goes back to when LIV was first forming. Speaking on Rick Shiels’ podcast, Casey recalled how DeChambeau personally recruited him to his team.
“When I had a call from Bryson a couple of years ago, and LIV was starting, he was like, ‘I am going to be a captain. Do you want to be on my team?’ I was like, ‘Yeah,'” Casey explained.
Over time, Casey has gained massive respect for DeChambeau, acknowledging his work ethic, personality, and passion for the game.
“The Bryson we see now, a lot of people maybe were not aware of… He’s just a big kid. Being a part of Bryson’s team and being around somebody like that… I am p**** off last year that I didn’t beat him,”* Casey admitted.
While DeChambeau had a big year, including a U.S. Open victory, Casey wasn’t pleased with finishing just behind his captain in the LIV standings.
“I walked away thinking I was frustrated that I didn’t beat him. He finished eighth or ninth, so that gets my goat; that keeps me going.”
Casey’s 2025 Goal: Overtaking DeChambeau in LIV Golf Standings
When podcast host Guy Charnock asked if Casey’s goal was to beat DeChambeau in 2025, the Englishman didn’t hesitate.
“I don’t publicize my goals, but I will tell you right now that I want to beat Bryson in the rankings in 2025.”
For Casey, this isn’t just about rankings—it’s about pushing himself to new heights in the Saudi-backed circuit. LIV Golf has become ultra-competitive, with some of the world’s best players battling each event, and Casey knows he’ll have to step up his game to reach the top.
Can Casey Deliver in 2025?
With momentum on his side and a clear target in mind, Paul Casey is gearing up for one of the biggest seasons of his career. If he wants to dethrone DeChambeau in the LIV rankings, he’ll need:
- More consistency in big events
- Stronger finishes under pressure
- A breakthrough victory to solidify his standing
As LIV Golf expands and the competition intensifies, the question remains: Can Casey pull off his mission, or will DeChambeau continue to dominate the Crushers GC leaderboard?
One thing is certain—Casey isn’t backing down.
