Key Developments
Rory McIlroy kicks off 2025 with stirring victory at PGA Tour while Amanda Balionis praises his monumental 27th win.
What’s better than a win as a golfer to start the year? Nothing can beat the great joy of winning, that too at the signature event of the PGA Tour. The feat of an exceptional start to the 2025 PGA schedule has been showcased by the 35-year-old Rory McIlroy. Featuring in the first event of the year at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Northern Irishman recorded his 27th victory.
After staying away from the lead in the first two rounds, McIlroy started to show his comeback in the third round and ended up tied for second position. But what happened in the last round was no less than a fairytale for the golfer. The Irishman, who was falling behind with two strokes, ended with a two-stroke lead after the final round. He closed with the score of under par 21 and went on to clinch his second signature event victory.
The golf world went on a spree to praise McIlroy’s achievement. Even CBS Sports journalist, Amanda Balionis, has praised the golfer with a special remark. She shared a carousel of images interacting with the golfers at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The champion made a special mention of the first two images of the carousel.
Additionally, she wrote on the post, “Win number 27 (!!) for @rorymcilroy and one he’ll remember for sure.” Besides, she also praised his win as a great addition to the sport’s history, “As a golf history buff, you know putting his name on this trophy is meaningful as is a win to kick off 2025. It’s nearly impossible to beat a perfect Sunday at @attproam and my goodness were we lucky to experience exactly that today.”
Impressive Performance and Disappointments
The great feat of the 4-time major winner is exceptional, but there were some players who had high expectations but failed to win. First was Sepp Straka, who maintained the lead till the third round but did not maintain it. Additionally, the World No. 1, also struggled to showcase the best of golf.
Even though Scheffler failed to win, Balionis has great expectations for him in the 2025 calendar year.
Amanda Balionis’s prediction for Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 schedule
The 2025 comeback for the 7-time PGA Tour winner in 2024 hasn’t come out as expected by the fans. But, Balionis, who observes the game closely, has shared her prediction for his 2025 schedule when asked during the Weneedtotalk show. She was asked, “You look at a guy like Scottie Scheffler, what are your expectations for him this year?”
She started off answering with, “More world domination.” Continuing further, she shared how the American professional has had a great year, despite having his first child and the situation at the PGA Championship. Further, she said, “Nothing could shake Scottie Scheffler.” She even pointed out how Scheffler has a great mental fortitude which makes him unshakeable, irrespective of the situation. And that is “What makes him the undisputed world no. 1,” she further added.
Now, with the second signature event of the year, Rory McIlroy has shown his class and the limited participation seems to work for him. The world, however, still holds hope for Scheffler as it’s just his first event after 2024 and following his injury. We are yet to see the full extent of Scheffler’s prowess as 2024 was just the beginning for him. What are your thoughts on it?
