Although Scottie Scheffler is yet to secure a victory on the PGA Tour in 2025, his consistent performances have kept him in the spotlight, with all eyes eagerly waiting for him to hit his stride. Despite a strange injury during the holiday season, Scheffler has made a comeback to the field, although not quite hitting the high expectations set for him.
In the recent Arnold Palmer tournament, Scheffler finished tied for 11th. He recorded a score of four under par, adding another top 15 finish to his professional golfing career. However, the absence of a win in his four starts has sparked questions about his impressive run in 2024 and whether it was merely a fluke.
Addressing these concerns, well-respected golf analyst Rex Hoggard shared his perspective in a recent episode of the Golf Channel podcast. Hoggard finds the skepticism surrounding Scheffler’s current form somewhat amusing, pointing out that despite the perceived struggles, Scheffler is still delivering commendable results.
Hoggard went on to joke about the absurdity of labeling Scheffler’s finishes, which included fourth, tied for ninth, and tied for 17th in his three starts, as ‘struggling’. He quipped, “If we could all be so fortunate if that was our rock bottom.” Hoggard also acknowledged that Scheffler has probably set such a high standard for himself that we can only compare it to golf legend Tiger Woods.
Scheffler’s performance this week, especially after a disappointing off-season, is seen by Hoggard as a positive sign. He observed a certain lightness in Scheffler’s demeanor when he walked off the golf course.
As Scheffler prepares for The Players Championship next week, he stands on the brink of making golf history. Only Jack Nicklaus has won The Players three times, and Scheffler has the opportunity to not only match this feat but also to accomplish it in consecutive tournaments.
But Scheffler is unfazed by the enormity of this potential achievement. In his own words, he said, “Yeah, well, I’m not going to be thinking about that too much next week, just go in there with the right mindset,” demonstrating his focus on readiness over pressure.
As the tournament at TPC Sawgrass approaches, Scheffler might be closer than ever to a significant breakthrough. If he brings his A-game to the course, he could very well etch his name next to Nicklaus in the record books.
