After the conclusion of the World Series and the announcement of option decisions by some clubs, MLB free agency is officially upon us.
Teams are able to sign players without a contract and, as always, everybody is looking to bolster their pitching staff.
Pitching is the name of the game: even the strongest offenses need to keep opposing lineups at bay.
MLB on FOX published their pitching free agency rankings, and there is considerable top-end talent.

Even though Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani is ranked number one – as he should, given his two-way prowess – he probably won’t be able to pitch in 2024 because of a severe elbow ligament injury.
Still, the team that signs him will have him back on the mound for the rest of his contract.
Fellow Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto is ranked second right behind Ohtani, which is impressive given that he hasn’t even thrown an MLB pitch in his life.
Still, it’s a testament of his talent and potential.
Aaron Nola, who has been in front of the Philadelphia Phillies rotation for years, is ranked third on the list, and Cy Young candidate Blake Snell is fourth.
World Series champion Jordan Montgomery is another top left-handed option for contenders.
After Cy Young candidate Sonny Gray, who is sixth in the ranking, there is a slight dropoff in talent.
Still, Josh Hader appears seventh and he is a generational relieving talent.
The free agent market, for starters, is a bit top-heavy, but there are six quality and proven options for contenders.
