The Chicago Cubs are hoping to contend for a playoff spot in 2024.
They were fighting for one of the final NL Wild Card spots this past year until the final week of the season.
After coming up short, the Cubs decided to make a bold move with their coaching staff.
They let go of manager David Ross and hired Craig Counsell away from the Milwaukee Brewers.
That move alone goes to show the Cubs wanted a more experienced manager with a playoff resume.
So far this offseason, the Cubs have not done much to improve their roster.
But, they recently did sign one of the big-name free-agent starting pitchers.
The Cubs signed Japanese left-handed starter Shota Imanaga.
He is expected to be put right into the middle of their starting rotation.
According to MLB Network, the Cubs starting rotation looks set for next season.
Imanaga should slot right into the third spot in their rotation.

It will be interesting to see what Imanaga can do in his first MLB season.
We have seen many players come over from Japan and succeed right away.
Last season in the Japanese league he threw 159.0 innings with 188 strikeouts.
Also, he had an ERA of 2.66.
One of the breakout pitchers in baseball last year was Justin Steele.
He had a 16-5 record and a 3.06 ERA.
The Cubs’ strength in 2024 might be their pitching, which has not been the case in recent years.
It will be interesting to see if the Cubs make any more moves this offseason.
Anything else they add to their roster will only help their chances in 2024.
