The Los Angeles Chargers are entering a new era.
With Kellen Moore no longer calling the shots on offense, new head coach Jim Harbaugh will turn to Greg Roman to serve as their new offensive coordinator.
Unsurprisingly, he made it clear that his No. 1 priority would be to establish a strong running attack.
He talked about how establishing the run will do wonders for Justin Herbert (Via Around the NFL):
“Can you imagine Justin Herbert with a great running game?” Roman said on Thursday, via ESPN. “We don’t know, but I can imagine what it might look like. So that’s kind of the vision.”

Notably, the Chargers haven’t had a prominent rushing attack since the LaDainian Tomlinson days.
Then again, Roman knows a thing or two about that, as he’s known for his run-heavy offenses.
Under Brandon Staley, the Chargers failed to become a top-20 rushing attack, and they bottomed out last season with Austin Ekeler averaging a career-worst 3.5 yards per carry.
Of course, it’s also worth noting that Roman has usually had some legitimate dual-threat QBs in his offenses, so perhaps we’re going to see Justin Herbert adding a whole new layer to his game.
He had Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco, Tyrod Taylor in Buffalo, and Lamar Jackson in Baltimore.
Herbert could finally have some legitimate help on the ground.
The Roman-Harbaugh duo has always favored strong rushing attacks.
Now, however, the Chargers need to focus on their personnel, as both Ekeler and Joshua Kelley will be free agents next season, and they’re projected to be over the salary cap, so it’ll be interesting to see how the front office deals with this situation.
