The New York Mets, at some point in the last couple of seasons, had incredible pitchers in their rotation.
They employed Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Chris Bassitt, Kodai Senga, and other top arms in recent campaigns.
The 2024 Mets, however, are a transition team.
They traded both Scherzer and Verlander and let Bassitt sign elsewhere.
Senga, who posted a 2.98 ERA as a rookie in 2023, is now the staff ace but is currently out with an injury.
As a result, the Mets rotation to open the year looks vastly different than the 2022 and 2023 units.
Team insider Michael Mayer revealed the group.
“The Mets starters to begin the 2024 season: José Quintana, Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, Adrian Houser, Tylor Megill,” he tweeted.

While it looks like an underwhelming unit on the surface, it’s important to note that some of these pitchers have upside.
Quintana is more about the floor, but it’s a very solid one.
Severino’s ERA was 6.65 last year, but he struggled with an injury early on and might have been affected by it even after returning.
He is still young at 30 years old and has a career 3.79 era with more strikeouts than innings pitched.
Manaea added a new pitch last season and thrived after that: if anything, he could provide a steady veteran presence and above-average performance.
Houser is a veteran innings eater, and Megill has a 3.45 ERA and 16 strikeouts this spring.
All five pitches have some positives in their profiles.
When Senga is ready to return to active duty, this rotation has the potential to be very decent.
