The Arizona Diamondbacks finished the 2023 regular season with a good, but not great, 84-78 record.
They were able to catch fire in the postseason, though, and made it all the way to the World Series eliminating powerhouses such as the Milwaukee Brewers, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Only the Texas Rangers were capable of taking down the talented D-Backs.
After losing the World Series while showing depth issues in the rotation and the lack of another productive bat or two, Arizona decided to go to work and attack their weaknesses in the market.
They have been able to add impact players across the diamond to complement their exciting young core, and are now looking like a legit World Series contender again.
“Since the Arizona Diamondbacks went to the World Series, they have: – Signed Eduardo Rodriguez for four years, $80M – Re-signed Lourdes Gurriel for three years, $42M – Traded for Eugenio Suarez. They’re planning on adding a power-hitting DH. Win, then improve. How it should be,” MLB insider Jeff Passan tweeted.

The D-Backs entered the offseason with a specific to-do list.
They needed to bring in another top starter to join Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, and Brandon Pfaadt in the rotation, so they got Rodriguez and his excellent 3.30 ERA in 2023 with the Detroit Tigers.
They needed to replace Evan Longoria at third base, so they went out and traded for Eugenio Suarez, a consistent power hitter.
And they needed someone to replace Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s production in the outfield, so they re-signed him.
Attacking needs aggressively and becoming a better team than the one that just went to the Fall Classic is certainly a smart strategy.
Arizona wants to win, and it wants to do it now.
