The future of Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields will be one of the biggest questions of the 2024 NFL offseason.
He’s played well this year, but the Bears may want to draft a rookie if they get a top-two pick to reset the quarterback contract clock and find a different type of passer for their offense.
Chicago has a few more games – and months – before they need to make a decision, but that hasn’t stopped speculation about where Fields could end up if the Bears decided not to keep him.
One of the oddest rumors out there was purported by KOAColorado’s Benjamin Albright, who said he heard that the New York Jets could look at a trade for Fields as a backup for Aaron Rodgers.
I didn’t phrase it that way at all.
I said I’d heard a rumor they might look into that as a backup to Rodgers.
That’s it. https://t.co/rXL82Lm28w

This would be strange for a few reasons: Fields has no connection to the New York area, the team, or the coaching staff, he plays a very different style of football compared to Rodgers and isn’t much more experienced than Zach Wilson.
It would also likely cost the Jets an early-round pick, something New York needs to use to fortify other positions of greater need like offensive line and wide receiver.
If Fields were to be traded, he’d likely want to go to a team where he would have an actual chance to start – something he definitely would not have the opportunity to do in New York if Rodgers was fully healthy for the start of the 2024 season.
There are plenty of other teams that should look at a Fields trade more than the Jets if the Bears shop him, such as the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders, and Denver Broncos.
