The Cleveland Browns made one of the most surprising moves in recent NFL history when they acquired Deshaun Watson.
Sure, trading for Watson was a risky move during his legal battles, but there is another piece to the story that was particularly shocking.
Watson received a fully guaranteed deal, which was by far the largest deal of its kind in league history.
When Browns fans heard this, they were mostly frustrated with the organization but also wanted to see what Watson could do in this offense.
After all, he was an MVP candidate during his time with the Houston Texans.
If he could do it then, why not with the Browns, a team growing its offense?
While Watson was a former MVP candidate, his first few seasons with the Browns didn’t exactly go to plan.
Between his suspension and injuries, Watson has only started 12 games for the Browns in two seasons.
The past few years might not have been the result the team was looking for when they signed him to this deal, but if recent reports are any indication, Watson could be turning things around.
According to Ian Rapoport on The Insiders on NFL Network, “I expect him to be like his old self in training camp and finally, finally, pay off that big-time contract.”

This is great news for Browns fans.
If Watson is fully healthy as Rapoport indicates, this team could be headed in the right direction in 2024.
Will they be able to compete in an increasingly difficult AFC North?
