In MLB, and in all professional sports and leagues, talent is really important.
Talent wins games.
However, availability is just as important.
We have seen countless skilled athletes and performers who miss a lot of time due to injuries and their impact, therefore, is diminished.
That’s clearly not Freddie Freeman’s case.
The Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman and former MVP with the Atlanta Braves has continually been one of the very best and most consistent sluggers in the league for a long time.
Yes, he is extremely talented, but there are a few hitters who are arguably better: Aaron Judge, Ronald Acuna Jr., and Juan Soto, for example.
But Freeman is always ready to play, has done a very good job taking care of his body, and has that luck element going for him to avoid serious injuries.
He is our current day Iron Horse.
“Over the last six seasons, Freddie Freeman has missed a total of 11 games,” MLB insider Buster Olney tweeted.

Winning teams want to make sure their stars are ready and healthy for the postseason, so if they have the chance, they find rest days for them here and there.
Not the Dodgers; or at least not with Freeman.
He is used to playing every day, and doing that hasn’t worn him out: to the contrary, he seems to be getting better with time.
Last year, he hit 59 doubles and had a .331 batting average with 29 home runs and 131 runs scored.
Heck, he even stole 23 bases.
Freeman is an awesome player.
What makes him special, however, is that combination of talent and availability.
