The New England Patriots didn’t need a lot of time to make a decision.
They already knew who they wanted for the head coaching job, and they’ve already announced former LB Jerod Mayo as Bill Belichick’s official successor.
Now, they have to work on getting someone to fill in for the GM spot, which is as important — if not more — than the actual head coach.
With that in mind, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the shortlist of candidates includes several names with ties to the team, such as former Las Vegas Raiders GM Dave Ziegler, former Tennessee Titans GM Jon Robinson, Kansas City Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi, San Francisco 49ers assistant GM Adam Peters, and Cincinnati Bengals executive Trey Brown.

The Patriots clearly needed a change of direction, coaching-wise, but that’s not the only problem they had, not by a mile.
Their roster isn’t talented enough to compete at the highest level, they don’t have a franchise quarterback, and they need to work on revamping their offense pretty much from the ground up.
Mayo can only do so much with the hand he’s been given, and their defense is likely going to pick up things where they left them with Bill Belichick, but this team is flawed, and there is a lot of work to do.
Robert Kraft will reportedly work closely with Mayo to find the perfect fit, and this might be the most crucial offseason in recent Patriots history, which is a lot to say.
