Fans of the Indianapolis Colts rejoiced on Saturday when it was revealed that the team and star running back Jonathan Taylor had agreed to a new three-year contract extension.
Taylor had been hoping for a new deal all offseason long, and he even asked for the Colts to trade him at one point this summer.
But in the end, Indianapolis was able to work things out and keep their top running back around for a few more seasons.
Taylor will be active for the first time this season on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, but the Colts are expected to ease him back into their offense, according to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo.
The #Colts will get their return on their new deal with Jonathan Taylor in the long run but expect a split between him and Zack Moss today as they ease Taylor back into action in his first game back. https://t.co/D2JwJmc8KA

Even without their top running back on the field during the first quarter of the 2023 season, Indianapolis has been able to surprise a few people, and they are currently tied for first place in the AFC South with a 2-2 record.
Sunday against the Titans presents a tough matchup for the Colts though, so the return of Taylor should be a big help in their attempt to add another win to their current total.
After Indianapolis selected him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Taylor quickly established himself as one of the top running backs in the entire league.
It will be interesting to see how the Colts decide to utilize Taylor in their offense now that rookie Anthony Richardson is the team’s starting quarterback.
Will Taylor benefit from the attention defenses give to Richardson as a rusher, or will the veteran running back struggle to adjust to Indianapolis’ new offense?
