The Chicago Bears will once again be faced with a decision to either keep Justin Fields or trade him away this offseason.
They secured the No. 1 overall pick for the second consecutive season after the Carolina Panthers – who traded their first-round pick to the Bears a year ago – clinched the worst record in the NFL.
With two solid quarterbacks at the top of the draft again, the Bears could either use that pick on a new passer and trade away Justin Fields, or keep Fields and trade away the pick.
The Bears could acquire some solid draft capital in either scenario, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Fields could net a second or third-round pick, while the No. 1 overall pick could be worth more than what the Panthers paid for a year ago.
League sources forecast… #Bears can get 2nd or 3rd round pick in a Justin Fields trade#Bears can get more than Bryce Young package — even from team picking in top-five — for No. 1 overall.

For reference, the Bears acquired Panthers wideout D.J. Moore, the No. 9 pick, the No. 61 pick, a 2025 second-round pick, and Carolina’s first-round pick in 2024, which became the No. 1 pick.
This is the ultimate question faced by any team all offseason considering the quality at the top of the draft as well as how Fields has played this season.
The Bears quarterback could set career-high marks this season depending on how he performs in Week 18 and has already won as many games this year as he did in his previous two years in the league.
But the team will have to make a decision on his long-term contract soon and could instead draft a younger, cheaper, and potentially better player in either USC’s Caleb Williams or UNC’s Drake Maye.
What the Bears do next could alter the fate of multiple NFL players for years.
