The New York Yankees have a massive void to fill in their starting rotation.
The news of Gerrit Cole missing at least 1-2 months has the Yankees scrambling for another pitcher.
Luckily for them, there are still a few good free agents available.
Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery are the best starting pitchers left on the market.
But, they are going to cost the most.
It appears the Yankees do not want to spend big on another free agent which is why they are targeting a player who will cost less.
According to Jon Heyman, the Yankees have checked in on Michael Lorenzen.
He pitched last season with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he notably threw a no-hitter.
Yankees have checked in on Michael Lorenzen. Would be nice addition for team that really could use two starters. White Sox among others in play.

Lorenzen pitched for both the Detroit Tigers and Phillies last year.
His ERA was 4.18 across 153.0 innings.
But, he is far from what they are losing with Cole.
After the Yankees acquired Juan Soto it seemed like they were going “all-in” for 2024.
But, not going after one of the top free agents does not show that.
They need much more than someone like Lorenzen if they are going to compete in the toughest division in baseball.
Most Yankees fans will not be happy if Lorenzen is signed to replace Cole.
After missing the playoffs last year, the Yankees should feel a sense of urgency in 2024.
Anything less than a playoff appearance would be a huge disappointment.
Seeing what moves the Yankees make leading up to the regular season will be very telling.
