The Chicago White Sox are probably not going to contend in 2024.
They lost 101 games in 2023 and have a long way to go to rebuild their roster.
By the time they are ready to compete again, their ace Dylan Cease will probably be a free agent.
That’s why they are open to trading him for the right return.
There are plenty of teams interested in the right-hander: even though he posted a mediocre 4.58 ERA in 2023, there is a lot of talent in his arm.
He had a 2.20 ERA with 227 strikeouts in 2022, and was named a Cy Young finalist.
His trade market, according to MLB insiders, appears to be heating up.
“Sources: Dylan Cease trade talks have intensified in the last 48 hours, and some people close to the negotiations believe a deal *before* the winter meetings is increasingly possible. Cease’s hometown Braves are among the finalists,” Jon Morosi of MLB Network tweeted.

The Winter Meetings will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, from December 4-7.
There is a good chance Cease is moved before that.
He will be a free agent after the 2025 campaign, so the acquiring team would have him for two seasons before he hits the market unless he signs an extension.
The Atlanta Braves are looking like the favorites to land the pitching star.
If they do, they would be adding to an already very solid rotation that includes Spencer Strider, Max Fried, Charlie Morton, and potentially Reynaldo Lopez, among others.
It would be one of the best groups in the National League.
