The Pittsburgh Steelers have been active this week in free agency, and they will look somewhat different once the 2024 season gets underway.
They signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler and former Super Bowl champion, while also snagging Pro Bowl linebacker Patrick Queen from the Baltimore Ravens.
The Steelers are also reportedly trading wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers for cornerback Donte Jackson and a draft pick swap.
Adam Schefter tweeted that Johnson has a $3 million roster bonus due to him on Friday, and the Panthers will now be responsible for it.
Trade terms:
Panthers receive WR Diontae Johnson and a 7th-round pick.
Steelers receive DB Donte Jackson and a sixth-round pick. https://t.co/jdl57fi2zo

Johnson was second on the Steelers in 2023 with 717 receiving yards, while he was tied with George Pickens for the team lead by scoring five receiving touchdowns.
However, he seemed to be unhappy at times during the season, which led to rumors that he would be traded.
He will give quarterback Bryce Young, who had a rough rookie campaign in 2023, some help moving forward.
Meanwhile, the Steelers will be getting a nice depth piece for their secondary in Jackson.
In his six NFL seasons, all of which were spent with Carolina, he has totaled 46 passes defended, 15 tackles for loss, and 14 interceptions.
Pittsburgh was already a solid defensive team in 2023, which helped them win 10 games and reach the playoffs, but the additions of Jackson and Queen could result in that facet of their game becoming even stronger.
The team resides in the NFL’s toughest division, so while Steelers Nation shouldn’t make any plans for the Super Bowl, fans should reasonably expect the team to at least compete for a playoff spot.
