The trade market in MLB can be exciting sometimes.
However, for some teams, it also represents some very frustrating times.
For weeks – even months – Dylan Cease’s name has been surrounded by trade chatter.
The Chicago White Sox ace is controllable for two more seasons, 2024 and 2025, and being realistic, the odds of them being competitive in two years are slim to none.
It makes sense to pursue a trade that would help replenish their mediocre farm.
Negotiations so far have been rough, though: teams aren’t willing to offer enticing packages, and the White Sox are asking for a lot.
Both things can be true depending on perspective.
As a result, the likelihood of the Pale Hose keeping their pitcher is growing every day.
“There is ‘more of a sense’ that the White Sox could keep Dylan Cease heading into the 2024 season, per @JesseRogersESPN,” B/R Walk-Off tweeted.

Cease didn’t have his best season in 2023, with a 4.58 ERA.
However, he was at his best in 2022, with a 2.20 ERA and 227 strikeouts that resulted in a place among the three Cy Young finalists in the American League.
He can be inconsistent, but he also misses plenty of bats and mostly avoids injuries.
For the White Sox, the best idea would probably be dealing him now, unless they are willing to gamble on him returning to form in the first half and then re-visiting the situation at the deadline, where the pitcher would still have a season-and-a-half of team control.
Stay tuned, because even though the winds are blowing towards the White Sox keeping Cease, it could be posturing and a deal could still happen.
