In just his second year in the NFL, quarterback Sam Howell was given a great opportunity by the Washington Commanders to be the team’s starting quarterback for the 2023 season.
Unfortunately for the Commanders, Howell starting under center didn’t go as well as they had hoped before the start of the season.
Washington was only 4-13 in his starts during the 2023 campaign, as he completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions.
With the Commanders expected to use the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on a new quarterback, some believe the team could look to trade Howell elsewhere this offseason.
If Washington does, in fact, place Howell on the trading block this offseason, FOX Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano believes there will be teams from around the NFL that express interest in making a deal for the young quarterback (via Dov Kleiman on Twitter).
Multiple teams around the #NFL would have trade interest in #Commanders QB Sam Howell if they make him available, per @RalphVacchiano

If a team is going to trade for Howell this year, it probably wouldn’t be completed for the purpose of making him their future starting quarterback.
The young signal-caller showed this past season that he still has plenty to work on, so a few years spent on the sidelines as a backup would likely benefit him greatly.
Who are some of the teams that could potentially inquire about Howell if he’s placed on the trade block?
Just looking at their current starting and backup quarterback situations, the Las Vegas Raiders, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New England Patriots all seem like legitimate landing spots.
Have we already seen the last of Howell in a Commanders uniform?
