The Jacksonville Jaguars lost an important game on Monday when they fell to the Joe Burrow-less Cincinnati Bengals, 34-31, after leading 28-21 early in the fourth quarter.
But they lost more than the game, as quarterback Trevor Lawrence injured his ankle late in the fourth quarter and was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.
High ankle sprains tend to be the most serious type of ankle sprain, but per Jeff Howe, Lawrence will undergo rehab around the clock in the hopes of being able to play this weekend at the Cleveland Browns.
Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is going to rehab around the clock this week to give himself a chance to play through his high ankle sprain, per sources. Too early to know how the ankle will respond and whether he’ll be available Sunday, but they aren’t ruling it out yet.

Lawrence played a very strong game prior to his exit by completing 22 of 29 pass attempts for 258 yards and two touchdowns while also adding another touchdown on the ground.
But the loss dropped Jacksonville’s record to 8-4, and while that is a very solid record, they’re just one game ahead of both the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans for first place in the AFC South.
Lawrence’s numbers are down from last year when he went on an amazing tear during the second half of the season as the Jaguars blazed a path into the playoffs.
While he has thrown for 3,004 yards, he has just 14 passing touchdowns, compared to 25 last year, and he has already thrown seven interceptions this year, compared to eight all of last year.
The Jaguars are clearly one of the most promising young teams as far as the next few years, as they boast studs such as running back Travis Etienne and wide receivers Christian Kirk and Calvin Ridley.
But they need their QB to be able to play if they are to take the next step.
