The upcoming edition of the NFL Draft is absolutely stacked at the quarterback position.
This being the most crucial position in today’s game, it only makes sense that scouts are doing a thorough review, even more intense and detailed than usual.
That’s why it’s kind of shocking to see that, according to some scouts, Washington star Michael Penix Jr. is reportedly the second-best quarterback in this class, trailing only Caleb Williams (via Dov Kleiman).

Penix is projected to be a late-first or early-second-round pick, and some even thought he could slip to the third round, albeit that seems unlikely at this point.
He’s expected to be taken after the aforementioned Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, J.J. McCarthy, and even Bo Nix.
Needless to say, that doesn’t have absolutely anything to do with his talent or potential impact on the game.
Instead, it’s all because of his age and history of several major injuries.
From a production standpoint, Penix could make a case for being the best of them, and he might be the best passer overall.
There’s no denying that he could be a productive player at the next level given the right opportunity, and perhaps those scouts who are so high on him are actually right.
Now, whether he’s going to be taken ahead of some of the players we mentioned- especially Daniels and Maye- seems like a huge reach at this point, but the best player is not always the one who’s taken first or second in the draft.
