After firing head coach Josh McDaniels on Halloween this past season, the Las Vegas Raiders chose to give Antonio Pierce a shot to earn the job by taking over as interim head coach.
Ultimately, after becoming a fan favorite and beloved by all his players while helping turn the team around, Pierce was hired by the Raiders to be the next head coach moving forward, which has resulted in a culture change in Las Vegas.
With Pierce in the fold, the team has taken on a new attitude that resembles the Raiders of old and has revitalized this franchise, with some believing this team could be a force to be reckoned with sooner rather than later.
However, the Raiders still haven’t fixed the quarterback situation since the departure of Derek Carr, with rookie Aidan O’Connell doing an admirable job last season but not good enough for the team not to look into drafting another quarterback in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Although there’s been a lot of talk about the Raiders wanting to bring in Jayden Daniels, it doesn’t seem possible outside of some massive trade, but they are within striking distance of selecting Michael Penix Jr., which appears to be the buzz around the team right now, according to ESPN’s Matt Miller (via The Purple Persuasion).
“One constant I keep hearing from people I trust is that the Raiders really do like Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. and could select him at No. 13 overall,” Miller said.

Although Penix is a very talented quarterback with a potentially promising future in the NFL, he has some injury issues, which have scared teams off or made it seem like a risk not worth taking, especially with a first-round draft pick.
However, the Raiders need a quarterback they can develop, and Penix fits the bill, so it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Las Vegas bring him in if he’s still on the board.
