Earlier this week, the Houston Texans made yet another aggressive move to show the team is determined to be a legitimate Super Bowl title contender sooner rather than later, with the team acquiring star wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a trade with the Buffalo Bills.
Although bringing in Diggs is potentially a big step in the right direction as it adds another target downfield for up-and-coming quarterback C.J. Stroud, the team brought in the veteran wide receiver on their terms by completing changes in his contract.
Essentially, the Texans wiped the slate clean for Diggs, with the four-time Pro Bowler making a considerable amount next season and then having the ability to become a free agent next year.
According to Field Yates of ESPN, Diggs’ revised deal with the Texans includes a massive signing bonus worth more than $20 million.
Here is how Stefon Diggs’ revised deal with the Texans breaks down:
Signing bonus: $20.805M
Base salary: $1.21M
Offseason workout bonus: $250K
Per-game roster bonuses: Up to $255K
2024 cap hit: $5.876MThe deal includes 4 void years.

Although this is a bit of a strange development as it jeopardizes Diggs’ long-term security, it does put pressure on the one-time All-Pro to play at a very high level during the upcoming 2024 NFL season, which is obviously great for the Texans.
Houston seems like a franchise that has grown tired of losing and wants to right the ship as soon as possible after seeing that Stroud is the real deal under center, and the team is putting it together defensively with Will Anderson Jr. and the arrival of pass-rusher Danielle Hunter.
Even though the Texans have made some impressive moves this offseason, it remains to be seen if Houston has put the right pieces together in order for this team to compete for a title next season.
