Through the years, Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell has been one of the best and most respected managers in MLB.
He took over the team in 2015 in the middle of a rebuild, and after enduring losing seasons in 2015 and 2016, his team took off in 2017 with an 86-76 record that year.
From 2018 to this point, the Brewers have made the postseason five times, and advanced to the 2018 NL Championship Series.
Counsell, however, is in position to earn a significant raise, and it’s unclear if the Brewers can or are willing to give him one.
He has been talking to teams around the league, and most of them are still holding out hope to get him.
He is the top managerial candidate out there.
He has informally spoken with the New York Mets and already interviewed with the Cleveland Guardians, and is said to be carefully examining his options.
One of these options, however, is not the Houston Astros, according to recent reports.
“Fwiw Craig Counsell does not currently have an interview scheduled with the Astros. As of yesterday he had not yet had his formal interview with the Mets, either. Cleveland remains only known team with which he has interviewed,” Mets insider Andy Martino tweeted.

The Guardians have to replace Terry Francona, the Mets are looking to replace Buck Showalter, and the Astros have to hire someone after Dusty Baker retired.
Counsell might be at the top of all those lists.
People around the industry praise his understanding of analytics and, particularly, how he relays the message to his players and gets the best out of them.
The next few days will be crucial, as a decision draws closer.
