The NFL Draft is officially less than two months away.
With the Combine taking place this week, fans and analysts are tuned into the action, hoping to get a glimpse of what NFL teams are thinking.
Combine performances and conversations can say a lot about prospective players, which is why many top prospects get interviewed and are measured and tested by various drills.
Former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy has been rising up draft boards, but at the interview portion of the Combine, a few questions arose about his career stats.
When looking at the raw data, McCarthy doesn’t have as dominant of box scores as his fellow top QB prospects, including Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels.
McCarthy didn’t shy away from talking about his stats but ultimately had a mic-dropping answer to reporters.
According to reporter Kevin Fishbain, McCarthy said, “The only stat I cared about was W’s, and we did pretty good in that category.”

McCarthy seemed to only care about winning; that is what he portrayed in this interview.
To him, it didn’t matter if he threw for 40 or 400 yards in a game; if Michigan won, that was good enough for him.
At the end of the day, winning is what matters in the NFL.
Players can try to focus on their stats, winning awards like MVP or Offensive Player of the Year, but if their team isn’t winning, their efforts are for naught.
McCarthy recognizes this, and if he carries this mindset in the NFL, he could be the quarterback that a hopeful team is looking for.
