Ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, there are only a handful of quarterbacks from the college game that might get taken in the first round, with J.J. McCarthy out of the University of Michigan potentially being one of those quarterbacks.
Although McCarthy is on the lower end of the totem pole of top quarterback prospects, he still might be able to make an impression on some NFL teams ahead of the draft to improve his draft position in the next few weeks.
Former Wolverines head coach and new Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has been quite the mentor to McCarthy and he talked about the advice his former coach gave to him as he heads to the NFL, via SiriusXM NFL Radio.
“Just so much wisdom getting passed down,” McCarthy said. “Stuff you never thought about. Just little things that you would think is elementary, but it pays off in a big way. That’s one of the biggest things I appreciate about him. His teaching is very simplified, and it’s easy to understand, and it’s very profound in a deep way.”

Along with giving McCarthy some sage advice about how to make the transition to the NFL level from the college game, he also thinks that the former Wolverines quarterback will be the first player taken at his position during the draft.
Unfortunately for McCarthy, he’ll be lucky to be the fourth quarterback taken, with Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels expected to be taken before him in the first round.
