For the first time in his career, Myles Garrett was finally named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Nonetheless, as usually happens with these awards, his selection wasn’t exempt from controversy.
Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt posted better numbers than any other defensive player in the league, and his brother J.J. spent the entire season campaigning for him to win the award again.
That’s why so many people wanted to hear J.J.’s take on Garrett winning the award over his younger brother.
With that in mind, the former Houston Texans star took to Twitter to make it loud and clear that he didn’t intend to tear Garrett apart by any means.
“The problem is I have no interest in tearing down MG,” Watt tweeted. “I can acknowledge that while also wondering what more TJ could have possibly done.”
Everybody is asking for my opinion on DPOY. I get it.
The problem is I have no interest in tearing down MG.
Myles is a phenomenal player, I’m a big fan and he’s had an incredible career so far.

He admitted to being a legitimate fan of the Cleveland Browns star and believes he’s an incredible player, so he wasn’t going to get into that.
The fact of the matter is that the award could’ve gone either way this season.
Watt did put up the better numbers, and he’s an incredible player as well.
However, Garrett made the bigger impact, and he often had to deal with double or triple-teams to put up his numbers, and that’s where the difference lies.
Fortunately, despite the new rules and how defensive players can’t make as big an impact as they used to make back in the day, the league still has some very talented defenders.
Now, it’ll be up to T.J. to prove that he’s the best of the best and play like a man on a mission next season.
