The Los Angeles Chargers lost Austin Ekeler to free agency, leaving the future of the position up in the air.
Ekeler has been a great multi-purpose back for the Chargers, getting it done both as a rusher and as a pass-catcher.
However, the team wasn’t able to offer him a contract he felt was fair, and as a result, the two sides parted ways.
While it is never ideal to lose one of your most talented playmakers, the Chargers are doing everything possible to make up for the loss.
According to Adam Schefter, the Chargers have scheduled a meeting with J.K. Dobbins, who has recently been cleared to play football again.
Baltimore free-agent RB J.K. Dobbins is scheduled to visit today with the Los Angeles Chargers, per his agency LAA Sports. Coming off a torn Achilles, Dobbins now has been cleared for football activity. He could reunite with Chargers OC Greg Roman, for whom he averaged 5.8 yards…

Dobbins tore his Achilles last year, the second major injury of his career.
He has been a reliable player when healthy, but given these concerns, signing Dobbins to a large deal is a risky investment.
As Schefter noted, if any team is going to sign him, it could be the Chargers, especially due to Dobbins’ connection with Greg Roman.
Roman is the Chargers’ new offensive coordinator, and he and Dobbins worked together in Baltimore.
Dobbins was highly efficient in the Roman system, which could give the team confidence that he is poised to have a similar output in 2024.
The Chargers fell short of their expectations in 2023, and they are looking for any possible edge or advantage to improve this season.
Adding a player of Dobbins’ caliber could certainly help, assisting Justin Herbert as another piece to this growing offense.
