The Miami Dolphins improved to 8-3 by winning the NFL’s first-ever Black Friday game when they defeated the New York Jets, 34-13.
They’re now tied for the best record in the AFC, and it was a strong showing for their defense, which has struggled throughout the season.
However, that defense may be a bit short-handed the rest of the way, as linebacker Jaelan Phillips suffered what is assumed to be a torn Achilles, which would mean he will have to miss the rest of the reason.
Phillips took to Twitter to show some optimism and faith following his injury.
Absolutely devastated, but I feel strength in knowing that this is all a part of God’s plan, and that I have an incredible team and support system around me. I’ll be back stronger than ever Fins up

Miami’s defense forced Tim Boyle, who has replaced Zach Wilson as the Jets’ starting quarterback, into two interceptions while limiting the team to just 29 rushing yards and 159 total yards of offense.
The Dolphins came into Friday ranked just 23rd in points allowed, and it is perhaps the reason why many feel they’re, at best, fraudulent Super Bowl contenders at this point.
Phillips, who is in his third season after a stint at the University of Miami, has 5.5 sacks and nine quarterback hits in seven games this year.
The team recently welcomed Jalen Ramsey back from injury, and in his previous three games, they had shown some defensive improvement, holding all three opponents to 21 or fewer points.
With Ramsey lining up opposite Xavien Howard in the secondary, Miami can at least pressure opposing wide receivers downfield, even if they cannot apply enough pressure at the line of scrimmage.
