The Philadelphia Eagles were four points away from hoisting the Vince Lombardi trophy last season.
They revamped their roster even further and entered the season as the team to beat in the NFC, but they hadn’t played up to that level just yet.
It was scary to think that even when they weren’t at their best, they were able to win five games in a row, including some close ones and against solid rivals.
But their erratic offensive display was unsustainable and they were due for some regression.
That happened when they faced one of the best defenses in the league, losing to the New York Jets for the first time in the season — and franchise history.
That’s why QB Jalen Hurts believes the loss could’ve been a bit of a blessing in disguise (via NBC Sports Philadelphia).

Following the loss, Hurts talked about how this was a character-building setback, adding that they could learn a lot from the defeat.
The Eagles defense had been as dominant as usual throughout the course of the season, but the offense failed to keep up with that same pace.
Hurts has been fairly good but not quite the MVP-caliber player he was prior to signing that mega-deal in the offseason.
Nick Sirianni’s team knows they can play much better than this.
They have the personnel to be the team to beat in the league again, and there should be no shame in losing to such a dominant defense like the Jets’ as long as they’re accountable and willing to learn from it.
