It’s no secret that the Cleveland Browns have struggled to find consistency at the quarterback position for many years.
Some fans have called this position cursed within the organization, as they seemingly find great prospects who don’t pan out for the team.
Take the 2023 NFL season, for instance, when the Browns had five different quarterbacks on the field at different times throughout the year.
After seeing how last year played out and knowing the franchise’s history at QB, the Browns’ front office is taking a measured approach heading into 2024.
Jameis Winston recently signed with the team on a one-year deal worth up to nearly $9 million, if for nothing else than to be a backup to Deshaun Watson.
While some expected Winston to take a more aggressive approach, perhaps working extra hard to become the starter, he clearly understands his role.
Winston recently spoke to reporters of the Akron Beacon Journal, where he said, “I look forward to allowing him to lean on me for anything that he needs,” as shared by Pro Football Talk.

“I just admire him as a person and, definitely, as a football player,” Winston also said.
This doesn’t necessarily suggest that Winston doesn’t want to be the starter, but instead that he wants to be a good teammate and friend to Watson.
He seemingly wants the best for the Browns, whether it be him or Watson as their starter for most of the 2024 season.
The Browns snuck into the playoffs as a Wild Card team last year, but if they want to make a deeper run in 2024, they’ll have to find consistency up and down their roster, which starts at quarterback.
