In a few weeks, the free agency portion of the 2024 NFL offseason will officially get underway, and players without contracts will be free to sign with any team that offers them a deal.
Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson is currently scheduled to become a free agent this year, and he’s expected to be pursued by a number of teams around the league.
Johnson recently shared his thoughts on what the future could hold for him when free agency begins in March (via Around the NFL on Twitter).
“Heart’s definitely in Chicago, mind’s definitely on the money,” Johnson said.

These comments might rub some people the wrong way, especially Bears fans, but at least Johnson is being honest about his intentions heading into free agency later this year.
He knows this could potentially be the only opportunity he gets during his NFL career to land a lucrative, multi-year contract, so he’s going to see if he can cash in.
Johnson was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bears, and he’s started a total of 53 games during the last four seasons.
In 14 games during the 2023 campaign, the 6-foot, 196-pound cornerback finished with 36 tackles (one for a loss), 10 pass breakups, four interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Obviously, Chicago would like for him to remain with them, and they should be able to afford him since they are currently projected to have more than $46 million in cap space this offseason.
The question just is how much of a priority is keeping Johnson on their roster for the Bears this year?
