The Miami Marlins are known for their stingy ways.
They don’t usually have a spending spree in any offseason, and they are cautious of their finances to the point in which their fans are often frustrated.
This year, they couldn’t agree with Jazz Chisholm Jr. on his 2024 salary.
Since neither party was willing to budge, they ended up going to salary arbitration.
The team ended up winning the case, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.
“Marlins win arbitration case with Jazz Chisholm. He will be paid $2.625M rather than the $2.9M he sought,” he tweeted.

Chisholm, the cover star for MLB The Show 23 and a role model for thousands of kids around the country, couldn’t win his arbitration case.
It’s a shame that teams have to reach this point with their players, especially one of the best on their roster.
But here we are: it happens, and it’s part of baseball.
In the end, the discussion goes well beyond the $275,000 that separated both sides.
What Chisholm, or any player, earns in a specific year will be reflected and have an influence on his future contracts.
The Marlins sure wanted to keep his earnings low.
Chisholm, when healthy, is one of the most exciting players in the league.
In 2023, he slashed .250/.304/.457 with 19 home runs and 22 stolen bases in 97 games; with a .761 OPS.
He has never been fully healthy in a season, but he surely is aiming to play somewhere close to 150 games in 2024.
At this point, he has clear 30-30 potential, and the Marlins offense needs that.
