The New England Patriots haven’t had a good quarterback since Tom Brady.
Cam Newton was past his prime, and Mac Jones failed to fulfill his potential, at least in Foxboro.
And while the Patriots deserve most of the blame for how things panned out with Jones, the fact of the matter is that they had to start over at the most crucial position in the game.
Still, it might be a while before we see their new quarterback take the field.
When asked about Drake Maye, new HC Jerod Mayo was brutally honest and straightforward with his response, admitting that he has a lot of work to do (via Mike Kadlick).
“He has a lot to work on,” Maye said.

The Patriots were always high on the UNC product, and they didn’t hesitate to take him with the No. 3 pick.
While they were open to moving down from that selection, it would’ve taken a massive offer for them to actually agree on a deal.
There was a lot to like about Maye, who boasts all the physical tools one would like from a franchise quarterback and who has drawn comparisons to Josh Allen.
Still, UNC quarterbacks haven’t exactly found much success in the National Football League, with Mitch Trubisky and Sam Howell as the latest examples of that.
More than that, Maye’s footwork is far from polished, and his decision-making and accuracy also left a lot to be desired.
The Patriots must be patient with him, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see him sit for his entire rookie season.
