There were a ton of talented receivers in this year’s NFL Draft class, so many that the son of the greatest wideout of all time slipped all the way to the 7th round where he was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers.
Seeing your son get drafted and follow in your footsteps has to be a humbling and emotional experience, but Jerry reportedly was more of a mixed bag of emotions to say the least.
Kris Rhim of ESPN did a profile on Brenden and his father’s draft day experience, and Brenden said that “my dad was hot” when he slipped to Round 7 but added that “I’m in the best position possible to go ahead and make my mark on and make my own legacy, I went from Caleb Williams to Justin Herbert.”

Brenden said his dad said “these guys going to feel us” in response to his draft day tumble, and that in that moment he was not the quiet and humble guy that fans have come to love and revere over the years.
Rice put up 45 catches for 791 yards and 12 touchdowns last season at USC, which was by far the best year of his college career.
He posted a 4.5 40-yard dash and 36.5-inch vertical leap at the NFL Combine while measuring in at 6’2″ and 208 pounds.
Rice will have every opportunity to thrive with the Chargers, as the team desperately needs standouts at wide receiver after losing Keenan Allen and Mike Williams this offseason.
It’s great to hear that he has a positive outlook on his future despite falling to the seventh round.
