Jim Harbaugh will help draft for an NFL team for the first time in a decade after he left the Michigan Wolverines for the Los Angeles Chargers.
After he led the Wolverines the the National Championship, he has deep insight into the best players from his Michigan team and where he thinks they’ll land in the NFL Draft.
While the Chargers certainly don’t need a quarterback – because they have Justin Herbert – Harbaugh told Colin Cowherd that his former Michigan quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, will be the No. 1 passer taken in April.
“Don’t be surprised if, when he’s the number one quarterback off the board,” Harbaugh said. “That’s my prediction right now.”

This is not actually expected to happen, with USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels clearly ahead of McCarthy at that position.
But Harbaugh wanted to hype up his player anyway and touted McCarthy’s arm strength, intelligence, and clutch ability as reasons why NFL teams should draft him early.
Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but it’s hard to see the Chicago Bears – or any team – picking McCarthy over Williams, Maye, or Daniels at the top of the board.
The Chargers have a lot of different positions of need that don’t include quarterback, though, and could get a solid player with the No. 5 overall pick.
Offensive line, wide receiver, or edge rusher could be on the table for Los Angeles, and Harbaugh will be there to help the team make that decision in his first draft since he was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2014.
