Jimmy Garoppolo has found himself in NFL news a lot over the past several weeks, and it hasn’t been because of his on-field play.
First, Garoppolo was suspended for using performance-enhancing substances, which subsequently caused the Las Vegas Raiders to cut him.
Shortly after this, the Los Angeles Rams signed him as their backup, but there was still an elephant in the room.
Fans and analysts alike were curious about Garoppolo’s suspension, as there were few details about the situation at the time.
As Sarah Barshop reported via Adam Schefter, Garoppolo has taken it upon himself to talk more freely about the situation.
In the conversation with Barshop, Garoppolo said he “messed up,” indicating that he mistakenly violated the league’s therapeutic use exemption for a particular prescription drug.
Rams QB Jimmy Garoppolo said today that his two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing substances policy was because he “messed up” the therapeutic use exemption when he first got to Las Vegas.

While Garoppolo was open and honest about this predicament, he seemed ready to move on and focus on football.
Later in his conversation with Barshop, Garoppolo said, “I wanted to find a good situation with good people around. I think I found it here.”
After leaving the San Francisco 49ers, a team that had been home to him for many years, Garoppolo entered an unknown with the Las Vegas Raiders.
It didn’t quite go as planned for many reasons, and now, he is seeking a better situation.
The Rams seem to provide that for him, as Sean McVay is a well-respected head coach, and Matthew Stafford should be a good teammate for him.
Stafford is still the starter, but if he misses any time, Garoppolo could again get an opportunity in the spotlight.
