Just a couple of years ago as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, Jimmy Garoppolo was regarded as an above-average quarterback and a solid game manager.
But injuries and a poor 2023 season with the Las Vegas Raiders caused his stock to fall considerably.
Now, Garoppolo is reportedly heading back to California to join the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year contract, per Mike Garafolo.

Garoppolo started his NFL career in 2014 as a backup and something of an understudy to the legendary Tom Brady on the New England Patriots.
When Brady was suspended for the start of the 2016 season for his role in the “Deflategate” scandal, Garoppolo stepped in and started two games while playing at a high level.
He earned himself two Super Bowl championship rings while in New England, and during the 2017 season, he was traded to the 49ers.
Garoppolo’s arrival in San Francisco greatly shortened the team’s rebuilding process, and in the 2019 season, he was the starting quarterback in Super Bowl LIV.
The Niners lost that game to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, and soon after, they traded up in the 2021 draft to nab quarterback Trey Lance, which was perceived as a sign that they didn’t believe Garoppolo was a championship-level signal-caller.
The emergence of Brock Purdy in 2022 made Garoppolo expendable, and Garoppolo signed with the Raiders for the 2023 season, but he played poorly, throwing nine interceptions and seven touchdown passes in seven games before he was benched.
In Los Angeles, he will presumably be a backup to Pro Bowl quarterback Matthew Stafford, and he will give the Rams plenty of insurance in case Stafford gets injured again.
