Ahead of the 2023 NFL regular season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a tough decision to make, with superstar quarterback Tom Brady announcing that he was retiring from the game.
Obviously, there’s no replacing arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, but the Buccaneers had to do their best in order to stay competitive in the NFC and were able to do just that by signing veteran Baker Mayfield.
Although Mayfield had seemingly been written off, especially after an awful stint with the Carolina Panthers, the Buccaneers were willing to take a chance on him, and it paid off as he led the team to an NFC South division title and a playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
With Mayfield proving his worth last season in Tampa Bay, his future now hangs in the balance, yet the consensus is that the team will re-sign him to a lucrative long-term deal.
While it is not known what the Buccaneers might offer the veteran quarterback, former NFL star Joe Haden has an idea of what it should be on an annual basis, via TMZ Sports.
“Baker, 25-30 million dollars a year, 100% to take a team to the playoffs. I think give him some dough,” Haden said.

Although that seems like an incredibly high number for a player who has had more down years than good ones, Tampa Bay might not have much choice if they want to remain competitive in a winnable division.
It’ll be interesting to see what that contract number turns out to be and whether Mayfield will like what he’s offered.
