The New York Yankees played their home opener on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
In a rather unusual day for the city of New York, the Yankees were shut out by the Jays, dropping the game, 3-0.
It was the second loss of the young season for the Yanks, who didn’t take advantage of a brilliant outing by Marcus Stroman.
Toronto’s pitching staff was magnificent all afternoon, and the local bats could never figure it out.
Yankees fans were still happy to welcome their team and watch live, meaningful baseball.
They were especially looking forward to enjoying Juan Soto’s talents.
Speaking of the newcomer, he wore some cool cleats to celebrate his new association with “the city that never sleeps.”
“Juan Soto’s custom cleats for the home opener have LED lights on the laces and ‘SOTO (heart) NY’ on the sole,” Talkin’ Yanks tweeted, with a picture of the footwear.

So far, every sign indicates that Soto has enjoyed his brief time as a Yankee and is happy to stay for the 2024 season.
He is working toward the common organizational objective, which is winning the World Series for the first time since 2009.
After that, nobody knows what the future holds for him.
He will be a free agent after the season, and has indicated he wants to be paid handsomely.
The Yankees, however, have a whole season to convince him that New York is the place for him to sign his new contract.
So far, he has had a great time there and has been playing some high-level baseball, both offensively and defensively.
