The Kansas City Chiefs are headed to their fourth Super Bowl in five seasons and have the opportunity to win their third Lombardi Trophy in the Patrick Mahomes-Andy Reid era.
There’s been talk that the Chiefs are the new dynasty in the NFL, much like the New England Patriots were for 20 years with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
Former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, who won three Super Bowls with New England and one Super Bowl MVP, thinks the Chiefs are close to dynasty status but need to win at least one more championship to join the same club as the Patriots.
“You gotta have three to be in the dynasty talk. They’re well on their way,” Edelman said. “With the Chiefs, man, it’s been impressive to see how they’ve been able to reinvent their team.”
The Chiefs are knocking on the door of being a dynasty, but need one more chip to solidify it.

The Chiefs are in the perfect spot to build on their recent success with one of the best quarterback and head coach pairings in recent history.
While the team looked worse in 2023, Kansas City still managed to win the AFC West and rattle off three consecutive playoff wins – including two on the road – against the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens.
So if the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, Edelman believes Kansas City should be considered a dynasty.
But even if that happens, the Chiefs would still only have half of the Super Bowls the Patriots won during the 20 years of Brady and Belichick.
With Mahomes and Reid, though, anything is possible over the next few seasons.
