The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new quarterback in future Hall of Famer Russell Wilson, but they could have an interesting situation brewing, as they also traded for Justin Fields, who was once a hot prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Wilson will be the starter for head coach Mike Tomlin, but some feel that by the end of the regular season, Fields will find himself under center.
Fields doesn’t seem to be content with merely being a QB2, as he said he’s competing and doesn’t have the mindset of “just sitting all year,” per Mike DeFabo.
Justin Fields said he’s “definitely competing.. Russ knows that. We’re competing against each other every day.

Fields did well in college, particularly during his two seasons at Ohio State, and thus great things were expected of him when he was the No. 11 pick in the 2021 draft by the Chicago Bears.
It was thought the long-suffering Bears had finally found their first true franchise QB since Sid Luckman in the 1940s, but Fields struggled during his three seasons there and showed little growth or improvement.
So far in his NFL career, he has completed just 60.3 percent of his pass attempts and has thrown 40 touchdown passes and 30 interceptions in 40 games.
Fields is a threat on the ground though, and there is a faint hope held by some that he will look like a different player in Tomlin’s system.
The Steelers have some decent offensive weapons in wide receiver George Pickens and running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, and they have the type of effective, hard-hitting defense Chicago hasn’t had over the last three seasons.
If Wilson, who is 35 and showed real signs of decline in his last two seasons with the Denver Broncos, struggles again, perhaps Fields will get another chance to run a team.
