The Pittsburgh Steelers entered the offseason with several questions about the future of their roster.
Fans were curious to see what would happen at the quarterback position, as there were rumblings of Kenny Pickett being on his way out the door.
Thankfully, their questions were answered quickly.
The team ended up adding two quarterbacks to their roster, also making a decision to trade Pickett away to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Russell Wilson was the first domino to fall, and while he is expected to be the Week 1 starter, Justin Fields could give him a run for his money.
After seeing the team make moves for both players in the same week, anything can happen, especially if Wilson’s performances are subpar to start his time with the Steelers.
If FIelds does get his shot, fans will see him with a new number on his back for the first time in his football career.
As the Steelers Update page on Twitter highlighted, Fields is switching his number to 5, as 1 is unofficially retired by the organization.
QB Justin Fields will wear No. 5 for the Pittsburgh #Steelers this season.
Fields has worn No. 1 for the entirety of his football career. However, the Steelers have unofficially retired the jersey number since K Gary Anderson, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, wore it… pic.twitter.com/SAunXrO4cH

This will certainly be a new look for Fields, but with a new number also signifying a new NFL landing spot, this could be the reset that Fields has been looking for.
The Chicago Bears were initially excited about what Fields could do on a football field, but for whatever reason, the pairing didn’t work out.
Hopefully, the Steelers can provide him with what he’s looking for, and if they give him an opportunity to start, he just might be able to revitalize his NFL career.
