After they used their first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to select him, the Pittsburgh Steelers had high hopes for Kenny Pickett as their new starting quarterback.
Unfortunately, Pickett’s first two seasons with the Steelers have been pretty underwhelming, and his future as a starter for the team currently seems to be up in the air.
To help people understand just how poorly Pickett has performed in his two years with Pittsburgh, analyst Warren Sharp shared a stat on Twitter on Sunday that puts the young quarterback in some terrible company.
1st round QBs to post negative EPA/att in each of their first 2 years in the NFL and their draft team said they’ve seen enough:
Brandon Weeden
Blaine Gabbert
EJ Manuel
Josh RosenKenny Pickett is in this category with his 2024 season pending (negative EPA his first 2 yrs)

Brandon Weeden, Blaine Gabbert, EJ Manuel, and Josh Rosen are some of the worst quarterbacks to be drafted in the first round in the history of the NFL.
So for Pickett to have a similar performance to these four signal-callers in his first two seasons in the league is not a good sign for the Steelers.
Despite the struggles of the young Pittsburgh quarterback during his tenure with the team, the Steelers still might have a little optimism about his future with the franchise turning out okay, especially after the team hired Arthur Smith to be their new offensive coordinator earlier this year.
Smith didn’t have much success as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons for the last three seasons, but before he became a head coach, he helped Ryan Tannehill turn his career around when the two were with the Tennessee Titans in 2019 and 2020.
Pittsburgh will be hoping he can do something similar for Pickett if the team continues to roll with him as their starting quarterback for the 2024 season.
