The Cleveland Browns came into the 2023 NFL season with high hopes of being one of the best teams in the AFC, with star quarterback Deshaun Watson under center, Nick Chubb coming out of the backfield, and Myles Garrett leading the way for their stout defense.
Unfortunately, the Browns had some awful luck throughout the regular season, with both Chubb and Watson going down with season-ending injuries, which was thought to derail Cleveland’s season and any chance of competing in a highly competitive division and conference.
Despite losing two of their best offensive players, head coach Kevin Stefanski and his coaching staff were able to figure out how to make it work offensively and got a big boost from an unlikely player after signing veteran quarterback Joe Flacco.
Flacco, who was sitting at home without a job and likely nearing retirement, flew out to Cleveland and signed with the team and became a force to be reckoned with under center once again, helping the Browns reach the postseason to face the Houston Texans in the first round.
Even though Flacco played well during his time under center for Cleveland, the Browns weren’t able to contend with a hungry and talented Texans team in the first round, resulting in a loss and some questions about Watson’s future with the team, which Stefanski addressed on Sunday, according to Tom Withers of the Associated Press.

With Watson being the highest-paid player on the team, the Browns likely won’t be making any changes to the quarterback position, even though he hasn’t looked good since he took over under center.
Flacco, however, may have earned the role as the backup moving forward, as he has proven to be a good insurance policy for Watson, who seems to be a bit injury-prone.
