With the NFL offseason mostly done and minicamps already underway, it’s getting more and more common to see some key contributors not around.
That’s the best way players have to put pressure on their teams and make the most of their leverage to get a new deal.
However, it’s not like that approach has worked every single time, so players must be wary about overplaying their hand there.
Notably, that might not be the case with Cleveland Browns star Amari Cooper.
As reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the former Las Vegas Raider and Dallas Cowboy hasn’t been in attendance at the Browns’ minicamp and is now subject to fines.

Of course, teams can also choose not to fine their players because of this, and it’ll all depend on their contract negotiations.
Cooper is about to enter the final year of his contract and is clearly looking forward to getting paid.
He’s earned that right, as he’s been the best pass-catcher on the team since he arrived there, and it hasn’t been particularly close.
Now, with a new offensive coordinator and Deshaun Watson being obliged to deliver in his third season in Cleveland, Cooper should have a more prominent role, even with Jerry Jeudy also arriving.
So, judging by the current picture, the Browns are more than likely to cave to his demands and give him the money he’s earned with his stellar production since they acquired him from the Cowboys, regardless of who’s been his quarterback.
