The Detroit Lions and Dan Campbell lived and died by their own playing style, and while that’s admirable, it’s also questionable.
Former NFL player Keyshawn Johnson wasn’t satisfied with his decision-making at this crucial point in the season.
Talking on “Undisputed,” he called out Campbell for thinking like a player and not like a coach, stating he shouldn’t have gone for it twice on fourth down:
“Dan Campbell thought like a player and not a coach. Take the field goal,” he said.

Johnson believes the Lions should’ve just taken the points and kicked field goals, and he also criticized Campbell for not running the football in the second half despite being up and finding plenty of success on the ground.
In hindsight, they could’ve won that game by three points with the six points they left on the field.
Of course, it’s easy to say that after the game went by, as the Lions did reach that stage by being aggressive.
It’s nice to know that your coach has your back and trusts you, and him being a former player also allows him to put himself in the shoes of the guys he’s leading.
In fact, even his own players would agree with that decision ten times out of ten, but that doesn’t mean it was the right call.
Fortunately, Campbell is a young and reasonable man, and he’s most definitely going to learn from his mistakes and get better as a coach for the future.
