On Monday, Kim Ng shocked the baseball universe by stepping down as the Miami Marlins’ general manager.
Several reports stated that the Marlins wanted to hire a president of baseball operations to have the first say in crucial, team-building decisions, relegating Ng to a secondary role.
This comes after Ng built a playoff team: even though the Marlins were ousted in the Wild Card round, there is a lot of merit in taking the Marlins to the postseason.
The executive confirmed the veracity of the reports, according to MLB insider Tyler Kepner.
Per Kepner, Ng said that she and Marlins owner Bruce Sherman recently talked about the direction of the team.
Specifically, she said they “discussed his plan to reshape the Baseball Operations department.”
“In our discussions, it became apparent that we were not completely aligned on what that should look like and I felt it best to step away,” she stated before making sure to thank everyone in the organization and especially fans.
…for the organization, and I will miss working with Skip and his coaches as well as all of the dedicated staff in baseball operations and throughout the front office. They are a very talented group and I wish them great success in the future.” 3/3

Ng certainly deserved a better fate: keeping the power to make baseball-related decisions in the organization and more budget to operate and bring in much needed reinforcements.
Instead, she is now unemployed.
The good thing is that she should be able to generate a lot of interest around the league.
The hope is that she can land another top baseball executive gig.
After all, she and her team are responsible for getting Miami to its first postseason appearance since 2020.
She traded for useful players and helped draft and develop others, so she deserved better from the Marlins organization.
