The Minnesota Vikings were dealt a gut punch in Week 8 when Kirk Cousins was helped off the field with an apparent foot injury.
However, the news was even worse as Cousins was diagnosed with a torn Achilles and will miss the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.
Without Cousins, Minnesota was forced to start rookie Jaren Hall in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons though his debut didn’t last long as he was forced to leave the game in the first quarter due to a concussion.
With Hall ruled out, Kevin O’Connell turned to recently acquired Joshua Dobbs who came over from the Arizona Cardinals earlier in the week.
Although Dobbs hasn’t had much time to learn the playbook, he performed as well as anyone could have imagined and even led the Vikings to a come-from-behind win with a touchdown on their final drive.
After the win, Cousins expressed his excitement over the win via his Twitter account.
Let’s go @Vikings!!!

Cousins must be so pleased to see that his team can still win games with him sidelined and Dobbs may have proven that he definitely belongs as a starter in the league.
Dobbs should handle starting duties from this point forward considering his experience and this victory, though the long-term future remains in question.
Cousins will be a free agent after this season, and his injury might be enough for Minnesota to stick with Dobbs or someone else.
However, that’s a problem the team can address after the season is over given that they’re in a position to claim a wild card spot.
