At the moment, there is a sizable contingent of talented Japanese pitchers thriving in MLB.
Yu Darvish, Shohei Ohtani, and Kodai Senga are the most obvious examples, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shota Imanaga, and Yuki Matsui will try to show off their considerable talent starting from this year.
Speaking of Senga, the New York Mets ace that earned votes in the NL Rookie of the Year and Cy Young award races, he said something that will put a smile on fans’ faces.
Well, Mets fans, that is, because other teams will likely be suffering when they face Senga.
“In his second spring training as an MLB pitcher, Kodai Senga says he’s working on something new, but ‘it’s still a work in progress.’ ‘So maybe we’ll find out soon,’ Senga said through an interpreter,” Anthony DiComo, a Mets insider, tweeted after a chat with the pitcher.

Senga was magnificent in his first season with the Mets after signing what now looks like a huge bargain: a five-year, $75 million pact.
He posted a 2.98 ERA in 166.1 innings, with 202 strikeouts.
He sometimes had issues with walks (he handed out 77), but always found a way and a big part of the reason why he was so good was his “ghost fork,” a forkball that suddenly tumbles as it reaches the plate.
The fact he averaged 96 mph with his fastball also helped, of course.
Stuff-wise, Senga is as good as they come.
Imagining him adding another offering to his already excellent stuff is insane.
Hitters better be ready, because Senga is all set to be the Mets’ ace and a Cy Young candidate in 2024.
